Rosin Octet
Het Grachtenfestival
Stroll through the oldest garden in the city to a special concert!
The Rosin Octet will play a program with two major works for string octet: the Octet in D, op. 5 by Reinhold Glière, and the Octet in E-flat, op. 20 by Felix Mendelssohn. The work by Glière has as simple construction with lyric lines and a clear, four-part form. Mendelssohn’s octet requires speed and precision, with thick textures and a finale in which material from the earlier movements returns.
The Rosin Octet was founded in 2021 and consists of string players from seven countries, all now based in the Netherlands. The ensemble concentrates on the standard repertoire for string octet, but also works together with contemporary composers on new works for this genre. They have performed in concert halls throughout Europe and among the prizes they have won are awards in the Fontys Willem Twee Chamber Music Competitions and the Toonzaal Talent Prize.
