Aures Quartet takes its name from the Aurae — the nymphs of the breezes in ancient Greek mythology - a name that speaks to the ensemble's essence: four individual voices that met somewhere in the middle. The quartet was formed at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where its four members met during their master's studies, and Amsterdam remains its artistic home.
The ensemble's international profile was established swiftly and decisively. Aures Quartet made its public debut at the String Quartet Biennale Amsterdam in January 2026 and received the First Prize as well as the Young Jury Prize at the Storioni Festival Competition 2026. Since 2026, the quartet has also been refining its artistry at the Netherlands String Quartet Academy (NSKA).
Together, Aures Quartet represents what is most vital about the chamber music tradition today: cultural diversity and a genuine curiosity about what the string quartet can be and do. The ensemble is based in Amsterdam and is actively building its concert life in the Netherlands and beyond.
