You are warmly invited to the ecumenical ‘green’ service with Archbishop Thabo Makgoba and his family. The Most Revd Dr. Thabo Makgoba is Archbishop of Cape Town and Metropolitan of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa. This service will mark the beginning of the Archbishop’s sabbatical on ecotheology and hope at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

Doors will open at 14:00. The service will start at 15:00.
Following the service, you are warmly invited to stay for refreshments and further conversation.

Archbishop Makgoba is a respected ecumenical leader and public voice, widely known for his sustained commitment to social, educational, and environmental concerns. Deeply connected to the life and struggles of his home country, he has been involved in a range of local and international initiatives focused on peace-making, justice, and dialogue (indaba). Archbishop Makgoba is the successor to Archbishop Desmond Tutu (1986 – 1996) and Archbishop Njongonkulu Ndungane (1996 – 2007). He is chair of the international development and humanitarian agency Christian Aid. He also serves as a board member and patron of several societal organisations, has been Chancellor of the University of the Western Cape since 2012, and has played a leading role in the Anglican Communion Environmental Network. He is also known for his pastoral wisdom and kindness.

The service is hosted by the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in partnership with the English Reformed Church and the Council of Churches in the Netherlands.
